How do I excuse my student if they need to be released early?

Please call the attendance line at 425-936-1500 option #1 or email ehsattend@lwsd.org the morning of the early release.

Provide the student’s first and last name(spell), grade, reason for early release, and the time they need to be released.

If calling/emailing during the day (please avoid coming into the school to release your student), we will need at least a two hour’s notice prior to the time your student needs to be released. This allows us to notify the student in a timely manner. If less than an hour, we cannot guarantee your student will be pulled from class.

PLEASE DO NOT USE SKYWARD TO REPORT EARLY DISMISSALS OR TARDIES AS SKYWARD IS NOT CHECKED ON A REGULAR BASIS.

EHS Attendance Policies & Procedures

Students miss school for a variety of reasons. It is important that students are at school in order to receive valuable instruction from teachers, collaboration with their peers, and understand important due dates. The school will determine whether an absence is excused or unexcused. The parent/legal guardian is responsible for explaining the circumstances for the absence, NOT for determining whether the absence is excused or unexcused.

Absences

Attendance will be taken daily in class. Teachers are responsible for taking accurate attendance. An absence is missing class altogether or missing more than half of the class. Students arriving late should check in with the Attendance Secretary in the main office.

Please note: Parents/guardians may not excuse absences for students who are on campus, but not in class. (Example: Studying in the library).

If your child becomes ill at school, they should go to the health room and a parent will be notified. Parents should not call the office to excuse a sick child who is sitting in class.

Late Arrivals/ Tardies/Return to School

If your child is arriving late to school, please call 425-936-1500 option #1 or email ehsattend@lwsd.org with the reason for the late arrival. Please provide an approximate time of arrival for the student. If a student misses less than half of the period, they are considered tardy or late (Note: tardies are neither excused nor unexcused. If a reason is given for the late arrival, it is noted on the student’s attendance record). If a student misses more than half of the period, a parent/guardian will need to provide a reason for the absence to be excused. All students arriving late or returning from an early release are required to check in at the attendance office.

Excusing an Absence

Wolf Time/Period 10

Wolf Time is normally scheduled Fridays from 10:05-11:40am. Students sign up for or are assigned this class by a teacher and attendance is taken. Students are responsible for checking their assigned Wolf Time in their FlexiSched and attending where they are scheduled. If they go to a different Wolf Time, they will be marked absent. This absence will appear on Skyward/ParentSquare as period 10. If a student is marked absent, the student will need to correct this with the teacher and the teacher will email attendance to change the absence.

Extended Absences

Please inform the attendance office and your student’s teachers if your student will be absent for an extended period of time. Parents and students, it is important to understand that an extended absence from school places the student at a disadvantage in meeting course work requirements. Our teachers will attempt to provide appropriate assignments in as much as is practical; however, in many cases it will be impossible to replicate or replace instruction that a student has missed. Teachers are not required to provide all class assignments before a student leaves.

Student Messenger/Robo Calls

School Messenger/Robo Calls -

These evening calls report absences for class sessions missed during the school day. Please reply to the ParentSquare message or you can email ehsattend@lwsd.org within two working school days (48 hrs).

If a student was marked absent incorrectly, the student will need to reach out to the teacher that marked their attendance and the teacher will email attendance to correct the absence. Do not email attendance as the teachers are responsible for marking attendance.

Responsibility to Report

Per Washington State Law, students and their families are responsible for school attendance. The parent/guardian of any student who is absent from class should leave an email with the Attendance Office within two working school days(48hrs) of the absence to explain the circumstance around the excuse. After that period, the absence will be considered unexcused.

When emailing please provide the following information:

· Student’s first and last name (spell if calling)

· Student’s grade

· The date of the absence

· The reason for the absence
