Types of Violations

Violations are categorized as Minor/Initial, Moderate/Repeated, or Significant/Persistent, based on severity and intent. Below are some examples of each category, but they are not limited to these examples.

Minor (All Formative Work)

  • Copying another student’s work
  • Using unauthorized tools/resources (including AI)
  • Sharing answers
  • Altering graded formative work

Moderate (Summative Work)

  • Plagiarizing significant portions
  • Using unauthorized tools/resources
  • Submitting someone else’s work
  • Sharing answers on summative work
  • Repeated minor violations

 Significant (Summative Work)

  • Stealing/distributing test materials
  • Paying someone to complete work
  • Coordinating group cheating
  • Altering graded assignments or dates
  • Persistent violations

Progressive Discipline/Consequences

Minor/Initial

  • After-school detention
  • Zero on assignment (no retake)
     

Moderate/Repeated

  • 2 hours detention
  • One retake opportunity (Capped at 75%)
  • Parent meeting/contact with Dean/admin
  • Possible refusal of letters of recommendation from Eastlake staff

Significant/Persistent

  • Short-term (1–9 days) or long-term (10+ days) suspension based on severity
  • One retake opportunity (Capped at 75%)
  • Parent meeting/contact with Dean/admin
  • Possible refusal of letters of recommendation from Eastlake staff

Please note that repeated minor violations will result in moderate violation consequences. Persistent Minor or Moderate violations will result in Significant violation consequences.
