Recommended Science Pathway

• YEAR-LONG COMMITMENT: Registration is a year-long commitment and students will not be allowed to switch classes because their grade doesn't meet their expectations. Once the school year begins, schedules are final. Additional online classes will not advance/change your schedule mid-year.
   
• NCAA REQUIREMENTS: If you plan to play a sport at a Division I or II college/university, it is your responsibility to check with the NCAA to see if the Out of District course you chose is approved.
   
• REGISTRATION: For Eastlake course registration for the 2022-23 school year, Every student MUST register for the next course in the sequence. Once their transcript is received from their Out of District Provider in August, the student’s schedule will then be changed to the next course.
   
• MULTIPLE OUT-OF-DISTRICT CREDITS: If a student plans to take more than one course, they will need to submit multiple forms.
   
• MAXIMUM OUT-OF-DISTRICT CREDITS: Students are not allowed to take more than 3.0 total credits outside of Eastlake during their high school career, so please plan accordingly. Note: Credits earned through WANIC Skill Center do not deduct from this total.

HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT FOR COURSES TAKEN BEFORE ENTERING 9TH GRADE:(Class of 2026 and beyond)

Students who complete and pass high school level courses taken before attending high school shall automatically be given high school credit, which shall be applied to fulfilling high school graduation requirements. At the request of the student and the student’s parent/guardian, high school credit earned before high school may be transcribed with a non-numerical grade. A non-numerical grade will not be included in the student’s high school grade point average calculations. High school credit earned prior to high school and transcribed with a non-numerical grade will apply to fulfilling high school graduation requirements.

• A student and the student’s parent/guardian must inform the school before the end of the 11th grade if they do not want credit for the course(s) taken before attending high school or if they want to request that credit be transcribed with a non-numerical grade.
• Online Health Courses will not be accepted (including WANIC).  All freshmen are required to take Health and Fitness in their 9th grade year.

Recommended Math Pathway

The math department STRONGLY DISCOURAGES students from taking online Algebra 2 or Precalculus courses over the summer in order accelerate their pathway. Although we appreciate your interest in the STEM field, taking an online math course will not fully prepare you for the following math course. Online math courses do not fully align their standard to the math standards covered through LWSD and they do not reach the same level of depth with the concepts. This causes students to have gaps in their conceptual understanding, algebraic skills, and analytical thinking. Students are then often frustrated during the following math course as they lack the necessary background skills. Please keep in mind that math is not just about the memorization of content, you must apply the information in different scenarios (which an online course will not prepare you for). If a student is interested in accelerating their math pathway, we recommend students register to take Geometry and Algebra 2 concurrently at EHS. Students can also take Statistics or AP Statistics concurrently with Precalculus or Calculus courses. Please also consider taking a computer science course to deepen your knowledge of the STEM field.

Recommended Science Pathway

The department strongly recommends that students take science courses at Eastlake to prepare them for AP classes. Course work and sequences are designed to prepare students for the rigor and pace of advanced courses, and taking an online science course will not fully prepare you for the following science courses. Online science courses do not fully align their standards to the science standards covered through LWSD and they do not reach the same level of depth with the concepts, and often do not provide students with the appropriate lab expectations. This causes students to have gaps in their conceptual understanding.
