WANIC Skill Center offers high quality, tuition-free professional training for high school Juniors and Seniors. These year-long, advanced-level Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs are based on rigorous academic and industry standards and prepare students for college and/or a career. WANIC programs may offer dual credit opportunities (both high school and college credit) and/or lead to industry certifications. Programs are designed in three period blocks allowing extended time to not only learn the theory of a subject, but to also get authentic hands-on lab experience. All classes earn Occupation Education high school credits and may offer other course equivalencies towards high school graduation requirements.

All first year DigiPen applicants must attend a DigiPen Information Session. May attend Info Sessions before or after submitting application.

WANIC Application Timelines

Registering for Academic Year Courses

Eastlake students interested in WANIC should register for a full Eastlake schedule during EHS 2024-25 registration.

After WANIC's registration opens on February 6, 2024, submit the WANIC application. The priority registration deadline is 4/15/24.

DigiPen WANIC classes require students to attend an information session.

After the Eastlake master schedule for 2024-25 is finished, usually in June, EHS counselors and the College and Career Center will work with students to modify original schedule requests to accommodate a student’s WANIC schedule.

You will typically need to be away from Eastlake for four class periods in order to participate in academic year WANIC.

Registering for Summer Courses

For students interested in summer WANIC, the summer application opens on March 26, 2024. Information for Summer will be available in March. This is a good option for students who do not have enough room in their schedule to participate in a year-round WANIC class.

WANIC Summer Semester is an option for all Eastlake students, including incoming freshman. Summer classes are generally 6.5 hours per day for 14 days, with students earning 0.5 high school (usually occupational) credits. .

WANIC does not enroll based on first come first served basis. After WANIC enrolls rising 12th graders who have priority, everyone who applies anytime during the designated window (TBA) has the same chance of being enrolled if a lottery is necessary.

What is WANIC Skill Center?

Washington Network for Innovative Careers (WANIC) is one of 13 Skill Centers in Washington state.

WANIC was established to provide advanced-level Career and Technical Education programs based on rigorous academic and industry standards, preparing students for post-secondary education and successful entry into high-skill, high-demand careers and employment.

WANIC operates as a cooperative school of eight local school districts. Member districts are Bellevue, Everett, Issaquah, Lake Washington, Mercer Island, Northshore, Riverview, and Snoqualmie. WANIC has campuses at Lake Washington Institute of Technology (Kirkland), DigiPen (Redmond), and at 34 area high schools.

WANIC provides courses that would normally not be offered in a comprehensive high school due to high operative and equipment costs or not enough student enrollment at the school.

WANIC is designed to help students get a head start on career goals by providing training in specific professions.

How does WANIC work with my Eastlake schedule?

Consult WANIC's times and locations when applying for academic year WANIC.
Register for a full 7-period schedule during Eastlake registration.
After your WANIC application is approved and Eastlake's master schedule for the academic year is finalized (typically in June), counselors and Mrs. Stevens work with students to adjust original EHS schedule requests and build a new schedule that allows enough time to travel to and attend classes at WANIC.

Will WANIC work with my Individual Health Plan?

Who can attend?

Students from consortium area high schools, who have not earned a high school diploma.

Home-schooled and private school students who are registered with their local WANIC Consortium school district who have not earned a high school diploma. If you live in the Eastlake area, you must register with Eastlake before your WANIC application can be processed.

Out-of-consortium high school students may be eligible on a space available basis with a signed shared student agreement. Contact the WANIC office for more information.

How long are the classes?

Can I earn college credits?

Students taking classes through WANIC can usually earn college credit through Pacific NW College Credit. This Dual Credit program is also called "CTE Dual Credit."

Most articulation agreements are through Bellevue College and Lake Washington Institute of Technology.

Pacific NW College Credit allows students to earn college credit if they maintain a B or better over the course of 2 semesters and pay a $50 fee.

Instructors distribute information about Pacific NW College Credit registration once class is underway. Interested students must register and pay for the credit by June 15th.

How much does WANIC cost?

Will WANIC work with my IEP or 504 plan?

WANIC welcomes students on IEPs and 504s.

WANIC is a preparatory career and technical education school designed to prepare students for employment and post-secondary training and is not designed, by definition, to serve as an exploratory program.

IEPs and 504's are shared with WANIC instructors.Your Eastlake IEP provider remains an important contact.

All Skill Center students must be able to demonstrate safe working behaviors and habits as evidenced by passing program related safety assessments and instructor observations.
